Hot Metal uses Clerk for authentication services. When you sign up or sign in using a third-party identity provider, we receive certain information from that provider:
- Google Sign-In: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We do not have access to your Google password.
- Other OAuth Providers: If you use other sign-in methods (such as Microsoft, GitHub, or Apple), we receive similar basic profile information as permitted by that provider.
This information is used solely to create and manage your Hot Metal account. Your use of third-party authentication is also subject to the privacy policies of those providers (Google, Microsoft, etc.).
2.3 Publishing and Social Connection Information
When you connect third-party accounts to Hot Metal for publishing purposes, we collect:
- LinkedIn: Profile information, connection data, and permissions to post content on your behalf when you authorize publishing
- X (formerly Twitter): Profile information, account handle, and permissions to post content on your behalf when you authorize publishing
We only access the minimum information necessary to provide our services. You can disconnect these accounts at any time through your account settings.
2.4 Automatically Collected Information
We automatically collect certain information when you use our service:
- Usage data (features used, pages viewed, time spent)
- Device information (browser type, operating system, IP address)

- Cloud infrastructure providers (Cloudflare)
- Authentication services (Clerk, which facilitates sign-in via Google, Microsoft, and other identity providers)
- Payment processing (Paddle — Paddle.com Market Limited handles all subscription billing and payment data on our behalf, subject to Paddle's Privacy Policy)
- AI and natural language processing services
- Analytics and monitoring services
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us. When you use third-party authentication (like Google Sign-In), you are also subject to that provider's terms of service and privacy policy.
5.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hot Metal, our users, or others.
